Calling All Ugandan Bloggers!

Are you a Ugandan blogger? Do you want to win two tickets to the VIP opening of our major exhibition in Kampala? We will be holding a private preview of the “A New Dawn” exhibition (see the tab at the top of the page for more info) in one of Kampala’s smartest hotels on December 2nd. The Uganda Local Government Association (ULGA) and the Northern Uganda Transition Initiative (NUTI) are offering one lucky blogger and a friend the chance to attend and cover this exciting event. You will get an exclusive preview of our show before it opens to the general public, and it should make for a great blog post. And of course everybody likes free food too, right?

Here’s what you have to do!

– Re-post this post on your blog. We want the text AND the images.
– Tag your post with “North Uganda”, “Northern Uganda” and “A New Dawn”.
– Make sure the images link to
– Add ‘Dawn New’ as a friend on Facebook.

Two days before the VIP opening on December 2nd we will type the three tags into Google and the blog we find at the top of the search results will win two VIP tickets. We can’t cover transport or accommodation costs but for any serious blogger the chance to cover an event of this scale should be reward enough!

Young Acholi men play basketball in the late afternoon in Kitgum town. The town was repeatedly attacked during the war, but life is beginning to return to normal.

The exhibition will be open afterwards to the general public at the Railway Square, Kampala, from the 3rd to the 7th of December, showcasing images of the peace and recovery of northern Uganda. Everybody is invited, so tell your friends!

    Hi Will,
Thanks for sharing! I’m wondering, though, who is behind it?
It doesn’t say – also it doesn’t say anything about the ‘prize’ or further conditions…
    Greetings Pernille

Yep, I’m still getting confirmation of details. What I can tell you is that the prize will be two tickets to a very VIP opening at one of Kampala’s grander hotels, with a jaw-dropping list of guests and some truly incredible imagery, and that it will be on December 3rd. The exhibition is part of the NUTI program in Northern Uganda, hoping to encourage southerners to look north! Watch this space for updates, sorry the details are so sketchy right now!

    Hi Will,

What I find the most interesting atm is that The Uganda Local Government Association (ULGA) is using social media – bloggers – to promote an activity in Uganda. Which is my main reason for asking. Did ULGA come up with this idea – and what role do they play here?

What I am missing are the details on who exactly is behind (who is paying – ULGA’s budget? And does the prize actually cover a ticket for someone in Europe? And who is doing the actual & practical Google monitoring in order to identify the winner?)

Cool initiative, but I think the information part is to thin to re-blog at the moment.

And – well, in terms of the prize – a trip up-country would – any time – be the most interesting in terms of blogging, not the hotel in Kampala 🙂

    Keep us posted!

The Ugandan Local Government Association is in partnership with NUTI, which is part of USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives. I am employed by NUTI as a photographer, and we at NUTI came up with this idea as a way of increasing awareness and coverage of our Kampala exhibition. Unfortunately as I mentioned we can’t pay transport or accommodation costs, but since we had hoped to draw the attention primarily of local bloggers we hoped this would not be a problem. There is quite a lot of information on the initiative on the rest of this blog though (check “What is “A New Dawn”) and also on Facebook on the New Dawn page, all I’m missing information-wise is the exact date and time of the show.

Update: It’s actually Dec 2nd. Sorry.

  6. Baz says:

Hi Will. Can we feature the exhibition in our upcoming Sunday Vision What’s On Guide?
I’m trying to find an email address to contact you on, but I don’t see one. How do I talk to you?
